Rachel Skarsten has been cast as Batwoman’s main antagonist in the forthcoming The CW superhero series.
Skarsten is set to portray Red Alice, the charming but maniacal leader of the Wonderland Gang, who has been described as the female equivalent of Joker in Batman.
What’s interesting is that in the comics Red Alice is the twin sister of Kate Kane, the real identity of protagonist Batwoman, here interpreted by Australian actress Ruby Rose.
At this point, it has not been confirmed yet if their family connection will be kept in the show.
Skarsten is known for having starred in another superhero work, The WB’s “Birds of Prey” as The Black Canary, a.k.a. Dinah Lance. She has also taken part in other successful projects such as “Beauty and the Beast”, “Reign”, “Fifty Shades of Grey”, and Molly’s Game.
Batwoman is the newest addition to the interconnected DC Universe created by The CW with hit shows Arrow, Flash and Supergirl. In addition, this will be the first superhero series with a gay character as the main lead.
Other than Rose and Skarsten, the cast is composed by Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton and Meagan Tandy as Kate Kane’s love interest Sophie Moore. The show is produced by Mad Ghost Production.
The pilot episode will begin filming very soon and the intention of the network is that of green-lighting the production of a whole season, expected to launch in Fall 2019.
