Captain Marvel, the latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has made a vast impact on the box office already, even before the official release date.

The pre-sale tickets for the movie, made available for purchase back in January, have surpassed those of other superheroes blockbusters such as Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Deadpool at the same point in time of the Fandango sales cycle.

According to the ticketing company, Captain Marvel is the second fastest pre-selling superhero film focusing on the story of the origin of the main character (in other words, not a sequel or an ensemble movie). It is expected to open up to a staggering $120 million, which could potentially increase in the next few days before release.

Talking about the plot of the movie, Captain Marvel, a.k.a. Carol Danvers, is an Air force pilot who unexpectedly finds out to have superhuman powers after landing on an alien world. There she understands she needs to use her abilities to help save the Earth from the devil powers who threaten it.

The movie, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, stars Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Ben Mendelsohn (Talos) and Lashana Lynch (Maria Rambeau). Other members of the cast are Djimon Hounsou, Annette Bening, Jude Law, Lee Pace, Gemma Chan, Clark Gregg.

Captain Marvel is set to be released on March 8th, Women’s Day, just before the release of Avengers: Endgame on April 26th.
