Britney Spears has checked into a mental health facility to recover from the emotional distress caused by her father Jamie’s health problems.

As reported by Variety, the announcement was made on Wednesday by the 37-year-old pop star herself with an Instagram post encouraging people to take care of their mind, body and spirit. The treatment is expected to last for 30 days.

We all need to take time for a little "me time." 🙂

Britney Spears’ father started to feel unwell back toward the end of the summer and in November the singer put her Las Vegas “Domination” residency on hold to look after him. Since then, Jamie Spears underwent two surgeries, one of which was needed to fix a ruptured colon and kidneys.

In January she wrote on social media: “I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.

“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.

“I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. ”

It is not the first time Britney Spears has to deal with mental issues. Back in 2007, she was hospitalized after attacking the paparazzi with an umbrella and shaving her head completely.

She was later admitted to UCLA’s Medical Center for treatment.
