Woody Allen has confirmed he will start shooting his new movie in Spain next month.
The film, whose working title is “WASP2019”, will showcase a star-studded cast including two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, Gina Gershon, Elena Anaya, Louis Garrel, Wallace Shawn and Sergi Lopez.
The project is being financed by Spanish production studio Mediapro, the company which previously collaborated with the director on major successes “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, “Midnight in Paris” and “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger”.
The film is described as a classic Woody Allen romantic comedy about a married American couple who attend the San Sebastian Film Festival and ends up falling in love with different people while getting caught in the magical atmosphere of Spain.
“She has an affair with a brilliant French movie director, and he falls in love with a beautiful Spanish woman who lives there. It is a comedy-romance that resolves itself in a funny but romantic way.”
Mediapro Jaume Roures said: “This latest movie has all the ingredients to be right up there along with what we’ve become accustomed to from a director of Woody Allen’s talent: an intelligent script and a first-rate international cast.”
A release date for “WASP2019” has yet to be released, however, Allen’s last movie “A Rainy Day in New York“, starring Selena Gomez and Timothee Chalamet, is set to premiere in September.
Originally scheduled to be released last year, the film was shelved by Amazon in the wake of the sexual harassment allegations levelled at Woody Allen by his former stepdaughter Dylan Farrow and the controversy between the director and the #MeToo movement.
