Dwayne Johnson gave a heart-touchingly inspiring speech at the MTV Movie and TV Awards. Dwayne was the recipient of the Icon Generation Award, which is bestowed on actors whose movies and TV shows have had a positive impact on the public.
Dressed in a quirky gold and yellow jacket with dragons doodled all across, Dwayne made a jaw-dropping entry to Queen’s fist thumping song, We Will Rock You, which was perfectly apt for the occasion as Dwayne is also known as The Rock.
In his speech, he first thanked the choreographers and the dancers who performed on the stage, along with his family, whom he described as a houseful of strong-ass women.
In the stirring speech given by Dwayne, he told the audience how he broke the Hollywood stereotypes when he first came, by being a 275-pound professional wrestler of African and Samoan ancestry. He recalls how he was dissuaded by many to enter into Hollywood and how people pressurized him to conform to the already existing norms of Hollywood by being a certain weight, by stopping the exercise and most importantly stop being referred to as The Rock. This made The Rock depressed for a long time until he eventually made a decision that,
“I wasn’t going to conform to Hollywood, Hollywood was going to conform to me.”
The actor further went on to tell his fans that being a nice human was of utmost importance along with the virtues of compassion, kindness, and inclusion.
Dwayne, in his speech, touched on topics like self-love, individuality, fellow feeling, and consideration. The actor and former wrestler concluded the speech with,
“It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice. With that, I love you. I thank you. Drink your tequila. I will see you all down the road.”
