While Marvel delighted the fans with their announcements of a large number of films at the Comic-Con festival this year, one of the previous movie franchise based on the God of Thunder, Thor has been resuscitated and that too, with a major twist.
The next Marvel movie called Thor: Love and Thunder will have Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor, Tessa Mae Thompson who plays the role of a Valkyrie and will have the comeback of Jane Foster, the love interest of Thor, portrayed by actress Natalie Portman.
But the interesting fact announced by Marvel is that Natalie Portman will be able to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. The forthcoming film is based on Jason Aaron’s comic book series called, The Mighty Thor whose storyline was described to be full of emotions, love, thunder and to be consisting of a female Thor.
Portman last appeared in Thor: The Dark World in 2013. After that, she was absent from the third installment called Thor: Ragnarok. The reason behind her absence was the fact that she was against the dropping off of Director Patty Jenkins. Later, she had been replaced by Taika Watiti. She, however, made a brief cameo in Avengers: Endgame via cut footage from her previous appearances and now will be returning full time for the next venture where Valkyrie a.k.a Tessa Thompson, the new ruler of Asgard is in search of a “queen” while Thor is out for an adventure in the space along with the Guardians of galaxy crew.
As director Taika Watiti hands over the hammer to Natalie on stage at the San Diego Comic-Con festival, the actress lights up.
“There’s nothing more powerful than love,” Waititi commented on the upcoming movie while Hemsworth added, “Or thunder!”
While Portman addressed the delighted fans at the festival after holding the hammer, “Feels pretty good. I’ve always had a little hammer envy.”
Some of the things are still not clear about the upcoming series. The announcement that we are soon welcoming a female Thor seems still strange. Recently, Natalie shared a picture on Instagram with Thor’s magical hammer on her hands. Along with it, she shared that she will be a part of Marvel’s series again as female Thor.
