This year it’s John Crowley’s upcoming film ‘The Goldfinch’
The film was adapted from the 2013 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Donna Tartt. Loss, tragedy, sadness cover the entire preview of the movie. The previews start with a young Theo Decker (played by Oakes Fegley) remembering the terrorist attack at an art museum (Metropolitan Museum of Art) which resulted in losing his mother, Audrey when he was just 13 years old. In subsequent scenes, we come to know about the art piece (the 1654 Carel Fabritius painting The Goldfinch) he had stolen from the museum which his mother wanted him to see most.
The preview is very fast-paced which makes it slightly difficult to understand what’s actually going on. It features Samantha Barbour (Nicole Kidman), James Hobart (Jeffrey Wright) and Boris Pavlikovsky (Finn Wolfhard/Aneurin Barnard).
Out on September 13th, “The Goldfinch” also stars Ansel Elgort, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson, and Denis O’Hare. Before it releases, the film will premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, which kicks off September 5th.
