Hulu is releasing a new women-centric comedy show called ‘Dollface’ in November.
This series stars some popular TV ladies like Kat Dennings and Shay Mitchell as disclosed recently on Hulu’s TCA Press Tour.
The Two Broke Girls star, Dennings will play the lead role of a young woman named Jules. Who after getting dumped by her boyfriend steps back into the world of female friendships. She must deal with her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women. Also, rekindle the female friendships she left behind.
The star cast of Dollface joined Kat Dennings, who is also an executive producer of the show on stage for their show’s premiere date reveal. The other executive producer, EP Jordan Weiss director Stephanie Laing also joined them for the same and expressed their thoughts on the relationships that exist on the show.
“The first half of the season is focused on the friendships and Jules’ position in ‘girl world’ even while the ladies are dating,” producer Weiss told onstage.
“We think of it just about friendships,” Dennings said regarding the stereotypical female toxic relationships while her co-stars completely agreed with her and added how friendships keep things ‘grounded’ on the heightened world of Comedy.
As the show is female-centric, Producer Weiss has said that they have minimally included Guys in the first half. Whereas more would be seen on the second half of the show, possibly threatening Jules’ position among her friends. Therefore the first half will revolve around Jules and her friendship revival with Shay and Brenda’s characters defining the friendship among these three women.
Shay Mitchell was even pregnant during the filming of this show which she hid by wearing large clothes. “My character’s wardrobe prior to them even knowing was already kind of loose and free-flowing”, Shay said. “(The best part is) not having to hide it, Because we were shooting this show, and for three months clearly I was pregnant, so it was nice to be able to not to have to be so concerned that I was showing” she added.
The three actresses also showcased their friendship off-screen as they made way into each other’s social media posts after their show was announced.
