Taylor Swift’s much-anticipated album Lover has finally been released. After the Grammy Award-winning artist, released the album Reputation in 2017, it was only on 23rd August’19 that her fans got what they were waiting for.
The artist’s seventh album Lover consists of 18 tracks, for several of those tracks the artist has collaborated with songwriters such as Cautious Clay for the song London Boy, Dixie Chicks for the song Soon You’ll Get Better and Annie Clark.
After Swift signed the new deal with Universal Music Group, Lover is her first album which is being released under this new association.
Early July, was when issues between Taylor Swift and talent manager Scooter Braun were brought to the public eye. Before Universal Music Group, Big Machine Records was the company that released Swift’s last six albums.
Swift publically expressed her angry in a post on Tumblr on 30th June. As Scooter Braun acquired the label Big Machine Records, he bought the rights to her master recordings. Since this public feud, Swift has decided to re-record the songs from the previous albums in order to regain control of them. At 15-years-of age, the singer/songwriter signed a deal with Big Machine Records before moving on to Universal Music Groups.
The Lover music video launched over Youtube, She shared, “And so it goes, you two are dancing in a snow globe round and round… The Lover music video is out now!”

Taylor Swift has strongly opposed the norm, which allows the recording companies getting ownership of the master recordings of an artist. Which explains the condition she put forth before signing the deal with Universal Music groups, the condition her to possess the right to own her masters. Which is how Lover will be the first album the artist owns. Swift posted a picture on Instagram expressing the joy of being able to own her new music. Swift is also the executive producer of the album and the co-producer for all the 18 tracks.
She posted on Instagram saying, “This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos. It’s the first album of mine that I’ve ever owned, and I couldn’t be more proud. I’m so excited that Lover is out NOW.”
The album includes several songs entirely written by Taylor, among those, are Lover and Cornelia Street.
The 29-year-old megastar seems to make a drastic shift from her last album Reputation which is dark-themed in comparison to the softer-theme of Lover.
Addressing the theme of the album Taylor in an interview said, “This album, in tone, it’s very romantic. Not just simply thematically, like it’s all love songs or something. The idea of something being romantic…it doesn’t have to be a happy song. You can find romance in loneliness or sadness or going through things in your life… it just looks at those things through a romantic gaze.”
Now that the wait is finally over after more than a year, head over to Spotify to stream Lover.
