“I can see the black coming out in you Lauren,” is one the tweets of the 21-year-old singer the fan referred to.

The fan in the Q&A said, “In the past, there is a lot of kind of ignorant tweets I guess I could say. Why has it never been acknowledged? Or why has there never been anything about it?”

In response to question, Shawn replied,

“Yeah, of course. A lot of things just need to be moved on from, but I also think that the things that [you] saw, like I had friends when I was 14 who would like take my phone and post things of them because they thought it was funny that I had like 2,000 followers and it was this big thing, and they’d post photos of themselves and at the time I was just like not thinking about it. I had no idea I was going to have 50 million followers, which doesn’t make it any better. But um, yeah totally I apologize for everything insensitive I said in the past, but with that being said, yeah, I think that’s not my personality.”

A considerable proportion of his audience considers his response immature since he didn’t take full responsibility of what had happened as he said that his friends used to take control of his account and the tweets might have been a result of it. He also said that at times it’s just better to move on from such things.

Shawn later took it to Instagram and Twitter to apologize for his past actions through his Instagram story as many of his fans were unimpressed with his half-hearted response in the Q&A.

At the MTV VMA’s the singer will be performing alongside Camila Cabello. After the release of their song Señorita the couple, engaged in PDA has been spotted on multiple occasions.

Shawn Mendes is currently on tour and will be performing in Ohio on August 27.
