Since then, Sam Smith’s career has continuously developed, registering a success after another, the most recent ones being the two hits from this year, singles “Dancing With A Stranger” with Normani released back in January and “How Do You Sleep?” released in July.
The singer has recently revealed to identify as “non-binary”, meaning they do not want to give a label to their biological and sexual identity. During an interview with YouTube star Jameela Jamil, they said: “I am not male or female. I think I float somewhere in between”.
On September 13th, Sam announced that the correct pronouns to use are “they/them” as “I decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.” (That is why the singer has been called with these pronouns in this article, to respect his choice. E.D.)
In a series of tweets, Sam said that they did not know exactly how to explain this transition but assured the followers that they’ll do their best at making it clearer.
They wrote: “P.S. I am at no stage just yet to eloquently speak at length about what it means to be non-binary but I can’t wait for the day that I am. So, for now, I just want to be VISIBLE and open. If you have questions and are wondering what this all means I’ll try my best to explain…”
Sam Smith took it to Instagram to share how wonderful it felt in being themselves as they wrote: “There was a time where I thought I’d never ever ever been able to be myself like this in front of the industry or anyone. It feels so good and I just wanted to share that with you all, and share a picture of my GORJ Gucci heels.”

Tonight I wore heels for the first time to an award show. I’ve just got home from a gorgeous evening and as I was walking to my front door I stopped and listened to my heels clonking against the floor. And I just thought ‘FUCK YES’!! There was a time where I thought I’d never ever ever be able to be myself like this in front of the industry or anyone. It feels so good and I just wanted to share that with you all, and share a picture of my GORJ Gucci heels. They’ll always be my virgin heels ⚡️✨💋
Sam Smith’s next music release will be the soundtrack for the Judy Garland biopic. Reneè Zellweger will play the part of the protagonist and she will duet with Sam as they will sing together the song “Get Happy”.
